This is a lack of sleep fuelled rant. Irritable.I hate “fake illustrators” so much, it just feels like they’re making a mockery of illustration as a profession and taking the piss out of people that are actually learning to draw and are putting a lot of effort into actually studying it… more importantly its making a mockery out of working freelance illustrators who have worked hard to get the recognition they do, because its not actually about being able to draw cute pictures or having a “cute style”. 99% of the pictures created by “fake illustrators” (aka people that call themselves illustrators on tumblr but are really just high school kids) aren’t actually illustrative at all, a lot of people who create these drawings need to actually go and research what an ILLUSTRATION is and what an illustrator does!  It feels like while so much attention is on these people that do silly little drawings, they are detracting attention from working illustrators who have studied illustration and actually need the attention and reblogs and recognition so that they can gain business and make a living at illustrating. I realise that I only study illustration (hence why I do not class myself as an illustrator), but creating doodles and posting them online doesn’t give you the right to call yourself an “illustrator” I believe its a title that has to be earned. 

I realise this is a rant, but you wouldn’t trim your own fringe and then say “I’m a hairdresser” or make a dress and say “I’m a fashion designer”. Illustration is no different, stop crapping all over the subject/profession I love.
